Housing Repair Advice
Are You Renting Through A Private Landlord?
If so, follow the steps below to see how you can get your housing repair issues resolved.
Step 1
We would advise you to check your tenancy agreement to ensure that all the repairs you are requesting are the landlords responsibility. Once this has been done, Contact your Landlord making them aware of the repairs that are outstanding in the home. Keep records and evidence of the reports as this will help you if you need to take further action at a later stage. This can be done via Pictures, emails, texts and letters to and from your Landlord
Step 2
Remind your Landlord again via email or letter to make sure that they are aware of the outstanding repairs that are needed. Suggest dates and times when repairs could be completed and be as flexible as you can when the Landlord does respond.
Step 3
If your landlord is refusing to carry out the relevant repairs or is not responding to you. We would advise you to contact your local council’s Private Renting Team. The environmental health team can force your landlord to carry out the repairs and improve the conditions of your home.
